The new direct flight connection was greeted with a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony with speeches from the representatives of Finavia and Finnair as well as the ambassador of Japan.

In addition to daily flights to Haneda Airport (HND), Finnair also operated flights from Helsinki Airport to Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT) twice a week.
Besides Finnair, also Japan Airlines, JAL, operates flights from Helsinki Airport to Japan five times a week.
