“We are eagerly looking forward to autumn and winter, as interesting destinations and new routes will again be available to passengers,” says Petri Vuori, Finavia’s Senior Vice President, Sales and Route Development.
As vaccination coverage increases, travel is opening up again and becoming easier in all European countries.
“You can travel freely to most European countries, as long as you have a vaccination certificate. However, it’s always a good idea to check the destination country’s entry instructions before leaving for a trip. Returning to Finland has also been made easier, as fully vaccinated passengers can easily enter Finland from other EU countries without having to undergo quarantine or COVID-19 tests,” Vuori says.
Wide range of flights to popular holiday destinations
During the winter season, Helsinki Airport offers about 90 direct flights to international destinations such as Paris, Barcelona, Dubai and Los Angeles.
Air France and Ryanair are the new airlines operating flights to Helsinki Airport during the winter season. Air France will fly from Helsinki to Paris. Ryanair will offer seven new routes from Helsinki Airport to Brussels, London, Milan, Paris, Kaunas, Poznan and Warsaw.
Of the more familiar airlines, Finnair has announced that it will fly from Helsinki Airport to about 70 destinations during the winter season. The airline says that it has increased direct flights to destinations such as the Canary Islands, Thailand and Miami, and will start flying to Singapore in October.
Finavia’s network airports also offer a wide range of flights to international and domestic destinations. For example, Turku Airport offers direct flights to Riga, Stockholm, Krakow, Skopje, Larnaca and Gdansk.
Lapland is popular with air passengers also this winter
“You can get to the glittering snow of the North quickly and easily by flying to Rovaniemi, Ivalo, Kittilä or Kuusamo Airport,” says Vuori.
For the first time, Air France will open a direct route from Paris to Rovaniemi Airport. There are also direct scheduled flights from Rovaniemi Airport to Düsseldorf and London, and also to Istanbul from mid-December.
International tour operators plan to bring tourists to Lapland from places like the UK. Charter flights are expected to be operated to the airports of Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo and Kuusamo. This information is still very preliminary and more details will be shared in December.
Airlines may still make changes to their flights for the upcoming 2021–2022 winter season.
