The New Year 29.12.-2.1. and 6.1. are popular travelling days at Helsinki and Lapland Airports. At Helsinki Airport, the busiest times are 6–9 a.m. and 3–6 p.m. Your airline or tour operator will inform you what time to arrive at the airport, and when your check-in begins.
If you are travelling from Helsinki Airport, we recommend booking your parking in advance. This way you can buy parking easily and at the best price in your preferred parking area. Parking at Helsinki Airport is easy - for example, the P2 hall connects directly into the Arrivals hall via lift.
Packing instructions: no fireworks on board
If you are flying to a New Year's celebration, buy fireworks from your destination. Fireworks are not allowed in the cargo hold or hand baggage of aircrafts.
You can check our packing instructions search engine to see what you can bring on your flight. See, for example, outdoor and camping equipment.
When packing your hand baggage, remember our tips for Helsinki Airport's security control: you do not need to remove electronics and liquids from your bag when your baggage is screened at the security check. We're using state-of-the-art technology.
If you are travelling from Lapland Airports, please check how to go through security control at Lapland Airports. Remember to take all electronics and liquids out of your carry-on for scanning. Read our travel tips for Lapland Airports this winter.
Make sure your passport is valid
Before leaving your home, make sure that you are carrying the travel documents required in your destination country, such as a passport. Please also make sure that your passport is valid into the new year.
We recommend that you take out your passport and travel documents in advance when you go to check-in or board the aircraft at the departure gate. This way you do not need to search your hand baggage for them in the event of an inspection.
