On 2 February 2024, Finavia’s Kuusamo and Ivalo airports celebrated the opening of new routes from Central Europe. Edelweiss Air will fly to both Lapland destinations from Zürich, Switzerland, once a week until the end of the winter season.

Reindeer, huskies and traditional folk music. These are the things that welcomed passengers arriving from Zürich when they landed on the first flights to Kuusamo and Ivalo airports.

On Friday, 2 February 2024, the Swiss airline Edelweiss Air opened two new routes from Zürich to Lapland. The routes are the latest additions to Lapland’s record-breaking winter season. A total of 19 new routes from Europe to Lapland have been launched this winter.

“We would like to extend Edelweiss a warm welcome to Kuusamo and Ivalo! This winter, Lapland has been more accessible than ever through Finavia’s airports. We have had many route openings to celebrate, which is also reflected in the number of passengers: During the 2023 November–December season, 18% more passengers travelled via our Lapland airports than at the same time last year,” says Jonna Pietilä, Finavia’s VP Lapland & Northern Finland airports.

Edelweiss will fly both routes once a week on Fridays until 22 March 2024. The flights are operated with 174-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.

You can find more information about the flights and book your tickets on the Edelweiss website.
