“We are very happy we can renovate Joensuu Airport’s runway this year and continue to provide a good level of service to airlines. The resurfacing will extend the life of the runway by many years,” says Mari Nurminen, Finavia’s Vice President of Central and Eastern Finland Airports.
During the renovation, about 13 hectares of runway and taxiway will be resurfaced. In addition to the resurfacing, the runway safety areas at the ends of the runway will also be renovated and technical preventive maintenance will be carried out in the air traffic area. The preparatory work will start in May.
Finavia has planned the work so that the most difficult phases of the work can take place in the middle of the summer when the airport has fewer flights than at other times. The pause in air traffic will also be used to carry out other repairs and maintenance work.
Joensuu Airport’s scheduled flights will start again on 10 May when the Swedish airline Amapola AB starts operating flights to Helsinki. According to the information we have right now, the airline will operate these flights until the end of 2021.
